Aarti Jadu

Aarti Jadu began her sound journey in the context of devotional music originating from India. Being a first generation Australian artist, Aarti's practice naturally bridges diverse ideologies for the survival of her own integrity. She fervently explores voice through electronics to greater understand energy and its potential in relationship.

Jadu composes cinematic, atmospheric pieces played live through electronic instrumentation, on occasion conducting ensembles. Pairing classical elements, currently referencing chamber music, vedic, baroque and various folk traditions, with industrial synthesizers, 808 and pop autotune, the work is idiosyncratic with both articulate and incomprehensible lyrics and convergence of melody and texture, metric and arrhythmic phases.

Recently working with sound design and directing a number of music videos, Aarti is most concerned with the immersive experiences of sound and theatrics that create a journey within both for the creators and participants.

Their performances often revolve around the interchange between digital processing/recording, synthesizers and organic voice. In these progressive song structures, her creative expression is boldly unique, landing nominations for the 18th Australian music prize for her 2022 release, L’ecole De La Caz, as well as a finalist in the category of Avant Garde/ Experimental Artist of the year for Music Victoria 2021. Jadu’s year began with a composition created for the Art Gallery of New South Wales and an interactive composition Oratorio for Perth Festival 2023, as well as a multicity tour including shows for Rising Festival, Vivid and NTS Radio.

In 2022 alone she has presented multiple new works, including her first public artwork EMBODIMENTS with Test Sites Phase 2 / ACCA’s ‘Who’s Afraid of Public Space?’ 2022 commissioned by the City of Melbourne.
